Sally Field began her acting career directly after high school, making her television debut in the series "Gidget," which aired from 1965 to 1966. She continued with lead roles in other television series, including "The Flying Nun" (1967-1970) and "The Girl With Something Extra" (1973-1974). Initially typecast in lighthearted roles, Field demonstrated her dramatic capabilities with an Emmy-winning performance in the 1977 melodrama "Sybil."
