Martin Luther King Jr. and Lenny Bruce, as well as Native Americans, members of the Black Panthers, and anti-war activists like Abbie Hoffman. He actively protested the Vietnam War and fought against police brutality. In later decades, despite some critics labeling him a relic of the 1960s, Kunstler continued to take on controversial cases, including the defense of organized crime figure John Gotti and Qubilah Shabazz, Malcolm X's daughter. He also secured the acquittal of El Sayyid A. Nosair in 1991 from charges related to the killing of Rabbi Meir Kahane. Kunstler authored several books, including "The Case for Courage" (1962), "Deep in my Heart" (1966), and his autobiography, "My Life as a Radical Lawyer" (1994). He passed away from cardiac arrest on September 4, 1995, in New York, NY, at the age of 76.
