Julian Assange

Julian Assange, born around 1971-07-03, is an Australian figure with a background in physics, mathematics, and computer programming. He rose to international prominence as the spokesperson and editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks, an internet-based organization focused on investigative journalism and the public release of secret information. His work with WikiLeaks gained significant attention on November 28, 2010, when the organization published over 250,000 classified U.S. government diplomatic cables, causing a global uproar in governmental circles. Prior to this, WikiLeaks had already published numerous classified documents and a video related to the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.In August 2010, a warrant for Assange's arrest was issued by the Swedish government on charges including unlawful coercion, sexual molestation, and rape, which he denies. He was arrested in London on December 7, 2010, and subsequently fought extradition to Sweden. On June 19, 2012, after his appeal was denied, Assange sought political asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he remained for nearly seven years. His Ecuadorian citizenship, granted on December 12, 2017, was suspended on April 13, 2019. Following the withdrawal of his asylum by Ecuadorian authorities on April 11, 2019, Assange was arrested by London police, leading to reports that Swedish authorities were considering reopening their investigation.
