Sean Connery

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on August 25, 1930, Sean Connery experienced humble beginnings, living in a tenement flat and contributing to his family's income from a young age by delivering milk. His early career path was varied, encompassing roles such as a bricklayer, coal miner, cinema usher, and even an art model, before a brief stint in the Royal Navy ended due to stomach ulcers. Connery, who had sculpted his physique to compete for the Mr. Universe title representing Scotland, began his acting training at age 20, largely self-taught through reading classics. His first starring film role came in 1957, but it was his casting as agent 007 in the James Bond series in 1962 that brought him international notoriety and fame. Despite initial success, he found his career somewhat typecast by the Bond image, leading him to explore other roles. His career saw a significant turnaround in the mid-1980s, earning him a British Academy Award for Best Actor in 1986 for "The Name of the Rose" and an American Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1987 for his performance in "The Untouchables." He continued to work as a mature actor, often cast in mentor roles, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. In his personal life, Connery married Australian actress Diane Cilento in 1962, with whom he had a son, Jason. After their divorce in 1973, he married Micheline Roquebrune in 1975. Connery was known for his unpretentious lifestyle, preferring to make his own travel arrangements and driving a fuel-efficient vehicle over luxury cars. He was a co-founder of the Scottish International Education Trust, to which he donated millions, and lent his voice to political advertisements supporting Scottish independence.
