Prince (musician)

Prince, born around June 7, 1958, was an American singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who signed with Warner Bros Records in 1977 after submitting a one-man demo tape. His debut film, "Purple Rain," was released in 1982. Known for his prolific output and dedication to music, he cultivated a distinctive public image characterized by a unique fashion sense, including lace gloves, velvet, and ruffles. His musical style blended influences from artists such as James Brown, John Lennon, and George Clinton, often exploring themes considered taboo, alongside more mainstream subjects. In 1993, he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol, a move he later explained was to free himself from undesirable relationships, and he was frequently referred to as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" during this period. He resumed using the name Prince in May 2000.In his personal life, Prince married Mayte Garcia-Nelson, and they had a son on October 16, 1996, who was born with a rare skull deformity and died a week later of natural causes. Their marriage contract was annulled in January 1999, though they maintained a connection. He became a member of Jehovah's Witnesses in 2001 and subsequently married Manuela Testolini on December 31, 2001. Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004, recognizing his significant impact on music. A vegetarian, he was also involved in various copyright infringement lawsuits concerning his music and images from 2007 onwards. Prince died on April 21, 2016, at his Paisley Park residence in Chanhassen, Minnesota, due to an opiate overdose.
