Alfred Hitchcock

Born in 1899, Alfred Hitchcock was the son of a grocer and received a Jesuit education. He began his prodigious career in the silent film era in Britain before relocating to Hollywood in 1939, where he resided for the remainder of his life. Despite his public persona, Hitchcock was known for being a private individual, living quietly with his wife of 53 years and their daughter. He reportedly confessed to being easily frightened and expressed disinterest in romantic relationships. Hitchcock directed 54 feature films, mastering the genres of suspense, humor, and horror. His notable works include "The 39 Steps," "Rebecca," "Notorious," "North by Northwest," and the iconic "Psycho." Beyond his films, he cultivated a highly visible public image through interviews, movie trailers, and his distinctive cameo appearances in his own productions. He also hosted the popular television program "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" for a decade. Acknowledged as an artistic genius, he was described by film critic John Russell Taylor in 1978 as "the most universally recognizable person in the world." Hitchcock passed away on April 28, 1980, in Hollywood, California, at the age of 80.
