Born in Madrid to Andalusian parents, Alejandro Sanz began playing guitar at age seven, influenced by his family's flamenco heritage. He released his debut album at nineteen, though his second release, "Viviendo Deprisa" (1991), marked his commercial breakthrough in Spain. Subsequent albums like "Si Tú Me Miras" (1993) and "3" (1995) also performed well, but it was his 1997 album "Más" that brought him international acclaim. "El Alma al Aire" followed in 2000, selling over a million copies in its first week, and in 2002, Sanz became the first Spanish artist to record an MTV Unplugged album. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with 22 Latin Grammy Awards and four Grammy Awards, including three Latin Grammys for Album of the Year.
Sanz's career continued to flourish with notable collaborations, including the 2005 single "La Tortura" with Shakira, which topped charts globally. He explored diverse musical styles with albums such as "No Es lo Mismo" (2003) and "El Tren de los Momentos" (2006), before returning to a more familiar sound with "Paraíso Express" in 2009. After signing with Universal Music Group in 2011, he released his tenth studio album, "La Música No Se Toca," in 2012, followed by "Sirope" in 2015. Sanz is notable for his flamenco-influenced ballads, and has also experimented with several other genres including pop, rock, funk, R&B, and jazz.
