Roger Federer

Roger Federer, born in 1981, is a Swiss professional athlete who became a tennis phenomenon. The younger of two children, he began playing tennis at age three and by 14, he had committed to the sport. He left school at 16 to focus on his tennis career, with his parents' support and a promise to return to academics if his athletic path did not succeed. After undergoing counseling to manage emotional outbursts, he became the world junior champion in 1998, marking the beginning of his professional career. By the end of 1999, he was the youngest player in the ATP top 100, and in 2001, he secured his first ATP singles title in Milan and defeated renowned champion Pete Sampras. On July 6, 2003, at 22, Federer became the first Swiss man to win Wimbledon, a title he defended consecutively until 2007, securing his fifth straight win. Known for his agility, finesse, and power on the court, Federer maintained a world No. 1 singles ranking for an extended period. Off the court, he is recognized for his politeness and candidness. In 2003, he established the Roger Federer Foundation, a charitable organization supporting education and sports training for disadvantaged individuals. He married his long-time girlfriend in April 2009, and they welcomed twin girls in July 2009, the same month he won another Wimbledon title. In May 2014, they had twin boys. Federer continued to achieve significant milestones in his later career, becoming the oldest player to win a Masters 1000 title in 2017 at Indian Wells, and securing his 19th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon that same year. In January 2018, he won his 20th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and returned to the world No. 1 ranking in February 2018 at the age of 36.5.
