Paul McCartney

Born in 1942, Paul McCartney's musical inclinations were fostered by his father, James, a bandleader. In 1957, he met John Lennon, a fellow enthusiast of skiffle music, and together they formed The Quarrymen, beginning a prolific songwriting partnership. The group evolved into The Beatles, with George Harrison on lead guitar and Ringo Starr joining as drummer, and under the management of Brian Epstein and production of George Martin, they signed with EMI in 1962. The Beatles quickly rose to international fame, captivating audiences in America in 1964 with multiple top singles, including the Grammy-winning "Yesterday" and "Michelle." By 1965, the group was appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire, and they later shifted from live performances to studio experimentation, creating sophisticated recordings. The band set world records in sales, with estimates reaching 100 million singles and 100 million albums by 1977. The Beatles disbanded in 1970 amid internal tensions. McCartney subsequently launched a solo career, releasing his debut album, "McCartney," in 1970. He then formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine, earning a Grammy for their 1974 album "Band on the Run." McCartney was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997 for his contributions to music and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 1999. His marriage to American photographer and activist Linda Eastman in 1969 lasted 29 years and produced three children, in addition to Linda's daughter from a previous relationship. Following Linda's death from breast cancer in 1998, McCartney continued his musical endeavors, including promoting her posthumous album. He later married Heather Mills in 2002, with whom he had a daughter, Beatrice, before their separation in 2006. In 2011, McCartney married Nancy Shevell.
