Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton was born in Sevierville, Tennessee, one of twelve children in a family that experienced poverty. Her early life involved helping to raise her younger siblings and developing an early fascination with makeup. She first appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in 1958 and moved to Nashville at age 18 to pursue songwriting. Parton established a successful career as a country music performer and songwriter, penning over 3,000 songs, including "I Will Always Love You," which later became a major pop hit for Whitney Houston. She collaborated with Porter Wagoner and released over 60 albums by 1993, earning multiple Grammy and Country Music Association awards. In 1986, she opened her $75 million amusement park, Dollywood, in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, which became a significant commercial success and provided employment for many of her relatives.Parton expanded her career into acting, making her film debut in "9 to 5" in 1980, followed by starring roles in films such as "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" (1982) and "Steel Magnolias" (1989). She also had her own ABC variety show, "Dolly," in 1987. In her personal life, Parton married real estate developer Carl Dean in 1966, maintaining a private relationship. She faced health challenges in the mid-1980s, leading to a temporary hiatus from recording and performing. A notable philanthropist, Parton established the Imagination Library, a program that donates books to children, inspired by her parents' illiteracy. By 2000, the program had expanded significantly, distributing millions of volumes. Known for her distinctive public image, Parton published her autobiography, "Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business," in 1994 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
